The HERITAGE Collection is a tribute to ancestral traditions. These exceptional pieces have been crafted from pashmina down carefully spun by hand on a wooden spinning wheel called a charkha or yander.
Through an entirely manual process, each pashmina thread comes to life. The craftswomen grasp small quantities of fiber between their fingers, twist them delicately and create a thread of unrivalled finesse. This technique demands absolute mastery, where every twist is imbued with passion and perfection. Carried out patiently and meticulously by the women's expert hands, this handcrafted spinning gently preserves the cashmere fibers, giving your shawl incomparable softness and exceptional longevity.

More than just fabrics, hand-spun Pashminas are unique creations, reflecting the soul and passion of the craftsmen who fashioned them. Their value transcends their outward beauty, as they also represent a cultural heritage and craftsmanship handed down from generation to generation. Traditionally the work of women, pashmina hand-spinning is unfortunately tending to disappear in order to reduce production costs. By choosing a Pashmina from the HERITAGE collection, you are helping to preserve traditional know-how and support artisan communities.

The KASHMIR PASHMINA GI label

In order to protect the traditional Kashmiri Pashmina industry from the proliferation of low-cost counterfeits, the Indian government has introduced a protected geographical indication certification label: Kashmir Pashmina GI.

This label guarantees an article made from 100% Ladakh "pashm" fibers with a diameter of less than 16 microns, hand-spun and hand-woven by artisans in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. After laboratory testing, Pashminas are marked with an irremovable identification label.

All the Pashminas in our HERITAGE collection are eligible for this certification, but after consulting our customers we have decided for aesthetic reasons not to mark these pieces with this plastic badge, which is a little too visible, until the Indian government finds another solution.

Hand-spun Pashmina currently accounts for only a small fraction of genuine Kashmiri Pashmina production. We draw your attention to the fact that many less-than-serious sellers falsely claim this appellation, but the lie is easy to detect: a hand-spun pashmina is naturally much more expensive than its machine-spun counterpart, for the simple reason that the craftswomen in charge of this delicate art must be properly remunerated.
