Hand-woven 100% cashmere pashmina shawl from Ladakh. Incomparable in terms of softness, warmth, lightness and finesse, this shawl has been hand-woven by a Kashmiri craftsman using the traditional kani technique. On a twill weave base, the craftsman creates the arabesque motifs not with a shuttle, but by interlacing small wooden sticks called kanis or tujis around which colored weft threads are wound. This weaving, whose motifs reproduce a coded pattern, is akin to tapestry and requires many months of work. It's an ancient and prestigious craft technique that has made Kashmir famous since the 15th century. Nowadays, Kani are reserved for the wedding trousseaux of wealthy heiresses and worn by the great and the good.
